2017 Jeep Cherokee

The 2017 Jeep Cherokee’s versatility, off-road prowess, lots of comfort amenities, and a civilized ride quality make it a top contender in the small SUV segment. Defining attributes include high-end technology features, a refined and reliable V6 engine, spacious interior accommodations, and a smooth and quiet ride quality. The Cherokee release date should be expected sometime in the first half of next year, judging by the latest industry’s rumors.

The newest Cherokee comes in a segment already populated by other similarly equipped and fresh vehicles ranging from rock-bottom to well-equipped and comfortable alternatives. But even so, the Cherokee will undoubtedly, suffice to say, give its rivals a run for their money thanks to the comfortable and ample interior space, and off-road mojo offered particularly by the Cherokee Trailhawk.

The audio and climate control’s layout is well laid-out and straightforward and even those who are often beleaguered by smartphone apps will find the system a walk in the park. The seats are comfortable and supportive. The exterior visibility is also awesome. And aside from the mediocre base engine, and the underwhelming cargo volume, this Jeep’s got a lot going for it.

Although impressive on paper, we are particularly not enthralled by the four-cylinder 2.4L engine’s capability of putting down the 184 horsepower generated. In all fairness, both the nine-speed automatic transmission system and the drive mode yield a sluggish ride quality whenever the driver demands for more power.

For those looking for greener pastures in terms of output, Jeep offers an optional 3.2L V6 engine that’s not only peppier when called upon, but superior and somehow thrifty at the pump. As much as the V6 sounds impressive, it comes with a costly price tag and we therefore think this destroys the Cherokee’s value proposition.

When we come to the Cherokee’s off-road mojo, the Trailhawk trim model sets the benchmark in the segment. It is distinguishable from the rest of its stablemate through its higher ride height and tough-guy looks. Performance wise, it comes equipped with a sophisticated all-wheel drive system matched to a unique locking rear differential system. It is well suited for mundane conditions due to its superior ride height and skid plates. In fact, it can pretty much venture into any terrain that traditional off-road SUVs like the Toyota 4Runner and the Wrangler can.

That said, the Jeep Cherokee suffices as a strong contender with plenty to offer, especially if you’re more interested in having fun during off-road adventures (misadventures). However, the segment still offers some other capable SUVs which we think are also worth your while. They include the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek, the Toyota RAV4, the Honda CR-V, and the Mazda CX-5 for 2017.

2017 Jeep Cherokee Engine Specs & Fuel Economy

Inspiration for the new Jeep Cherokee 2017 is offered by a four-cylinder 2.4L base engine capable of putting out a decent 184 hp and 171 lbs. ft. of torque.
