The new 2018 Bentley Continental GT Speed comes as part of the planned overhaul of the entire GT lineup. This comes at a time when it is still the best-selling model from the Continental GT family. Whereas the new Speed comes chock full of new features and technologies, the real news lie essentially under the hood. Its date of release is expected in July 2018 according to industry pundits.
Under its hood is VW Group’s 6.0L twin-turbocharged W12 behemoth that cranks out a whopping 582 horsepower and 531 pounds of torque. These values represent an additional 15 hp and 15 pounds of torque over the previous model. Additionally, it now gets 20 mpg/combined which signify a 5% better fuel economy than the outgoing model. Two additional engines are available with the least powerful rated at 521 hp and the most powerful at 626 horsepower.
Exterior wise, the changes are mild but that shouldn’t be taken to mean the Speed isn’t offering any uniqueness for 2018. To start off, the exterior division now gets additional three new colors: Camel, Marlin, and Jetstream. We couldn’t have bothered mentioning the fresh colors but the truth be told – the Jetstream is a sight to behold.
Interior wise, the surfaces are simply gorgeous and of high-quality. Of course, what luxury can’t a price tag of $263,400 buy? The leather furnishings are simply breathtaking, the beauty here lies in the details not just the plain material used. The controls are driver-oriented and come in a contemporary look, as are the new dials and graphics. For those who just can’t survive for a minute without surfing the web, Bentley has equipped its cabin with a Wi-Fi connection.
When it comes to the available rivalry, there isn’t actually anything like it in the market at least yet. But we can give the Aston Martin Vanquish the benefit of doubt. When it comes to a spirited driving, luxury grand tourers, and powerful engines beneath their hoods – the Vanquish is the only potential threat to the survival of the GT Speed. Coming off a major refresh some couple of years ago which brought about upgraded dampers, new colors inside out, lightweight chassis, and a new Touchtronic III, 8-speed auto transmission, the Vanquish reiterated its position as a luxury supercar.
It comes with a powerful engine and although less powerful as the GT Speed’s mill, cranks out an impressive 568 horsepower and 465 lbs. of torque. You’d be fooled to think that the Vanquish is a bit slower than the GT Speed due to the power output difference. On the contrary, the Vanquish is faster than the GT Speed.
The ZF transmission available on the Vanquish is what enables it to conquer 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, which represents a 0.1 second faster than the GT Speed. When it comes to pricing though, with a window sticker of $290,000, the Vanquish is far more costly than the Speed by almost $30,000.
Interior Pictures & Exterior Changes – 2018 Bentley Continental GT Speed
For 2018, the new GT Speed for 2018 comes with very subtle changes on its front grille and overall exterior appearance that you’ll need to be hawk-eyed to sport the differences. The side intakes have now been raised closer to the headlights while the massive vent now extends towards the fenders.
Interior wise, the driver controls are a bit crisp than in the outgoing model. The entire cabin is now LED-illuminated while the center console has now gained gear-level surrounds. The front seats now come in diamond quilting design pattern.
2018 Bentley Continental GT Speed Engine Specs
Under the hood of the 2018 GT Speed is a 6.0L W-12 juggernaut capable of cranking out a walloping 626 @6,000 rpm horsepower and 607 @1,700 rpm pounds of torque. This power is transmitted to all the wheels via the eight-speed ZF automatic transmission system. Test drives conducted have yielded four-seconds during an acceleration of 0-60 mph.
2018 Bentley Continental GT Speed top speed stands at a breathtaking four seconds. Simiarl specs are only seen in the Porsche Panamera model.
It is rumored that Bentley is adding two more engines under its hood. However, we haven’t yet known the exact details yet and we would want to speculate at this time, but we will be updating the spots soon.
