A freshly, newly designed 2018 Dodge Viper is in the making. With the Viper ACR concept being showcased at the 2014 SEMA show we began to wonder whether they were really serious in bringing back this design to the market. But the concept was only a teaser or a showcasing of the things to come as they are announcing a completely new model for the 2018 year which will come back after a five-year-long sting and will be one of the most extravagant vehicles in the 22-year long history of Viper vehicles.
Three years after the second generation of the Viper was introduced, came the first ACR model of the said brand. It was a V-10 powered engine and was a sports car which was only available in its coupe version. But unfortunately this massive and aerodynamic beast built for racing was discontinued when the third generation of Vipers came out. But it did not take too long for the vehicle to be absent as it made its return in 2008 with even more updates and changes to it than it ever had. With a record braking 7 minutes and 12.3 seconds lap at the Nurburgring in 2011 it managed to achieve the 6th fastest lap eve measured there.
We do not know if they are trying to break their own record with the new 2018 version. But it may prove to be completely possible at least judging based on the new aero additions the vehicle has received. The ACR is the vehicle which established the most track records in the world do it does appear like this one may pull off a similar thing when it does get released. The review has all the currently available details so you get to know more about the ne version of the 2018 Dodge Viper ACR release.
2018 Dodge Viper exterior aerodynamics
The styling of the 2018 Dodge Viper ACR is going to adopt an already familiar look. The vehicle will resemble to concept that was featured at the SEMA show but will also resemble the already known 2008 and 2010 models from the past. This car will add, as well as the ones before it did, a carbon fiber splitter, a race-space vented hood, fenders gills and carbon fiber canards as well. But what the new version is going to extend with an extra pair of canards which are going to be fitted to the bumper. Thus the new ACR will have a total of two per side.
To the back side of the car there is going to be a huge wing placed which is going to help create downforce and keep the vehicle stable at higher speeds. Added as well is the aggressive looking diffuser also made from carbon fiber so it enhances stability. The new aero package helps the car achieve the highest possible level or aerodynamics making it one of the more stable cars out there. It can produce nearly a ton of downforce at 177 mph as it was calculated during testing.
Te paint theme is also a very familiar one as it was also the one used for the SEMA showcasing. So we find the thick gloss-black center stripe to the middle of the car with a complementary Adrenaline Red stripe. The new Viper is also included in the “1 of 1” Viper Program which means that it has a high level of customization available with around 8,000 exterior color options and 24,000 custom stripe colors, and 11 wheel options as well.
2018 Dodge Viper interior info
The inside of the 2018 Dodge Viper ACR does not have much information released about it. We can only assume that the interior was built with a standard Viper cockpit and produced with an emphasis on weight reduction. This means that some convenience features, like the radio for instance, have been removed from the production level as they mean more weight for the car.
What some spy photos have shown us is that the dashboard has been completely wrapped in carbon fiber while the bezel was removed. The shifter is wrapped in Alcantara leather for better gripping and a special touch for the steering wheel which sees the inclusion of a Header Red stripe for the 12-o’clock position on the wheel itself. We additionally saw an added Stryker badge and a heritage ACR instrument panel badge placed on the inside as well.
Like any other Viper vehicle, so will the 2018 Dodge Viper ACR come with a 8.4-liter V-10 engine. This vehicle is going to be able to produce an expected output of 645 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is going to be combined with a a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed Corvette Z06, which is offered optionally. Indications show that there is not going to be an automatic transmission offered now nor any time soon for this vehicle.
Official word of the performance rates has not been given but based on the reduced weight this car has gone through, we expect the car to climb from the 3.3 seconds it currently takes it to achieve 0-60 mph performance. The model rivals the best in the business and can certainly hold its own with Audi R8 but even the Porsche 911 model.
