Rumors of the upcoming new 2019 Ford Explorer can no longer be ignored now. Several weeks ago, one of our spy photographers accidently stumbled what looked to be the new version of the Explorer. The model was later confirmed to be indeed the upcoming new model and that got us excited so much so that it got us to start writing this piece of review.
2019 Ford Explorer Release Date & Expected Price
Just when should we lay wait for the new model? Online sources are very conservative at this point as little to no info is offered. But even as the horse’s mouth remains mum, details have emerged that seem to suggest that the new model might be offered for sale sometime in the second half of 2018, say, June as a 2019 year model. If that happens as most of us think, then we’d also believe the rumored price to be true as well.
The Ford Explorer price in question stands at $31,660 for the base model. The Explorer XLT should come second at $33,770, the Explorer Limited at $41,600, and the premium-inspired Explorer Platinum at $53,200.
This section will be updated once the correct figures start trickling in, which we forecast should begin in a few weeks from now. So stay checking back.
Ford Explorer 2019 Review
Most people who are current users or been past users of the Ford Explorer will agree with me that the Explorer is one appealing choice for anyone shopping for an SUV. The appealing features defined here include quality cabin trimmings, outstanding quietness, different engine choices, and admirable standard features.
The Ford Explorer – a household name among American buyers – has had its own evolutionary path that has made it become the truck it is today. For instance, it started out as a body-on-frame SUV then evolved to become a car-based, modern 3-row SUV.
The level of comfort ultimately boils down to what one can afford. There’re dizzying options including trim models that can outfitted with most wishes. And speaking of wishes, we ourselves have particularly become fond of the Explorer Sport model. The Explorer sport is downright impressive in terms of handling, steering, and suspension shifting, feats that cannot be exactly shared with the rest of the available trim options.
But let’s cut the crap and get to the bottom of what brought you here, what has really changed? See, the 2019 Ford Explorer has got more changes in it as opposed to what is clear to the eye. Although the exterior also has its fair share of aesthetic changes, most of the radical changes happen to occur within.
So first, the new model is set to be the first model to use the next-gen D6 platform. In addition to underpinning the Explorer, the new D6 platform is also set to spawn other larger models such as the Lincoln and Ford. The platform, according to Ford, should help reduce weight due to the extensive use of aluminum that the new architecture encourages. Besides just saving on weight, the new platform will also be beneficial when it comes to improving fuel economy and aerodynamics.
Returning again will be the turbocharged four-cylinder engine that will pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission system. The nine-speed will be a replacement for the previous six-speed currently in use on the current model. Even as we try to mop up any available information on what we should expect, we haven’t yet found any reason to overrule the probability of a hybrid powertrain.
The segment also provides some alternatives in the event that you find the 2019 Ford Explorer falling short of your expectations. One such vehicle is the GMC Acadia. The Acadia is a tropical midsize crossover vehicle that provides lots of utility thanks to its three rows. It also features powerful engines. The other option you could check out is the Dodge Durango. The Durango is one that offers an unusually spacious third row space, real-off-road prowess, exceptional towing capacity, and an assertive acceleration.
2019 Ford Explorer Interior Redesign & Exterior Changes
Depending on what you want your Explorer to feature, five choices are offered – Explorer base, Explorer XLT, Explorer Limited, Explorer Sport, and Explorer Platinum. And as already told, Ford is yet to confirm or overrule the possibility of a Hybrid model. And again we could still see an introduction of a new model or complete discontinuation of an existing one. So this seems like one exciting journey that Ford has started. Details, as already mentioned, will be added as we go along.
Aside from the trim models offered, we also mentioned how we particularly like the Explorer Sport model. So some of the reasons why we recommend it include a powerful V6 engine, heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstered, power folding third row seats, a nine-speaker sound system, an upgraded Sync 3 interface, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and power-adjustable pedals. One could also pay more bucks to end up with the Explorer Platinum – the top-dog trim in terms of luxury features and overall performance.
Exterior colors include Blue Jeans Metallic, Ingot Silver Metallic, Canyon Ridge Metallic, Shadow Black, White Gold Metallic, Smoked Quartz Metallic, Ruby Red Metallic, and Canyon Ridge Metallic.
2019 Ford Explorer Specs For The Engine
Much of what lies beneath the hood remains a mystery thus far. Most sources however say that all the three engine options might carry on unchanged for the 2019 model year. In such a scenario, we should therefore expect the 280 horsepower – generating 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, the 365 hp- producing 3.5L EcoBoost V6, and the 290-horsepower – generating naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 engine.
But as already mentioned before, Ford may be lurking with surprises and therefore shouldn’t just take our word for it.
In conclusion, we think that the new 2019 Ford Explorer might not necessarily provide a huge leap forward in terms of performance, technology, and design. The changes we expect should just help it navigate this rival-infested segment. But hey, who knows – Ford might secretly be designing the next big thing yet to be seen.
