We expect the expected 2019 Kia Sorento to debut with major gains. Three models later, the rumored model remains a solid choice for those looking for a plethora of configurations, an upscale feel, nicely damped ride, and responsive four-cylinder turbocharged engines.
Regardless of the trim model you decide to go with – as the model is still expected to come in about five models – all come with generically handsome appeal that makes it such a lovely vehicle in this segment. It’s well-detailed and smooth and not blingy or jagged.
Moreover, the Sorento makes it at the top of our recommendation list thanks to top safety scores and a long warranty. While we expect the new 2019 Kia Sorento to come with several new features and redesigns, we don’t entirely expect the new model to undergo a full redesign. One reason being that the model only recently came out of a full redesign two years ago and it wouldn’t be such a great idea to have it undergo another one this soon.
Kia has had quite a bit of challenges in its quest to topple the segment leaders largely because of a lack of name recognition. This perception is however changing with time and the Sorento is slowly but surely graduating to the fully-fledged midsize status, competing on performance and luxury with the segment’s best.
We don’t expect to see dramatic changes under the hood either, and we should therefore expect the engines on the previous model to continue unchanged. At the bottom of the performance spectrum is a 2.4L four-cylinder engine that together with a six-speed automatic transmission help send 185 horsepower to all the wheels. Those seeking even more power have the option of getting an even more powerful option – the 3.3L V6 engine capable of offering 290 horsepower and 252 lbs. ft. of torque. Kia should however try to better the fuel economy currently provided – our guess is they might probably want to add several aerodynamic elements.
Inside, the new 2019 Kia Sorento, just like the previous iterations, should continue offering the best impressions. The vehicle impresses so much so that it acts more or less than a plush luxury SUV thanks to comfort-oriented features such as supple front seats, handsome leathers, and soft-touch plastics. Passenger space is voluptuous but requires some bit of work especially the third-row seats which are cramped. We are however hopeful that Kia will try and improve on this area.
2019 Kia Sorento Release Date & Price
Pricing for the basic Sorento should be around that of the current model that goes for sale for an MSRP starting from $26,500. Changes should be very minimal and therefore the price shouldn’t deviate much from what is currently charged. The release date should be expected sometime in September 2018.
2019 Kia Sorento Exterior & Interior Design
Just like before, we still expect Kia to offer the Sorento in a multitude of various trim options. Last year, the Sorento was available in five trim models with the base being the Sorento L model and the SX Limited being at the top of the food chain. You can also choose which passenger configuration best suits you – the 2019 Kia Sorento should give you the option of either a five-or a seven passenger configuration to choose from.
Most surfaces on the 2019 Sorento are richly textured and soft to the touch. And in addition to these quality materials you also get two-tone color schemes that accentuate the whole premium feel of the interior. Those looking for an even more premium look and feel should opt for the higher trims that come properly equipped with incredibly luxurious features that offer creature comforts.
The dashboard is appealing and doesn’t appear to be cluttered. The touchscreens are simpler to use and are highlighted by clear labelling and big virtual buttons.
The cabin is spacious and there’s lots of versatility that comes with it. More comfort and cargo space can be had with further customization that involves sliding and reclining the seats. And this kind of versatility can be had regardless of the seating configuration. The third row seat doesn’t offer as much space as the first two and therefore not recommended for adults. Those shopping for a usable third row seat should probably check out what is offered by the Toyota Highlander.
Exterior wise, we don’t see much changing in terms of styling. We should however see some changes in say the materials used for the construction of the new 2019 Kia Sorento. More and more vehicles’ manufacturers are turning to lighter yet stronger building materials in order to save on fuel and overall performance while improving on the strength of the chassis. We’re however yet to hear of any of such news from Kia.
2019 Kia Sorento Engine Performance
As already told, the new model should continue using the previous three engines. As such, the L and LX should continue to make use of the 2.4L four-cylinder engine that is responsible for offering 185 hp and 178 lbs. ft. of torque. Also available is a 240 horsepower 2L four-cylinder and a 290 horsepower-generating 3.3L V6 engine.
Towing capacity for a well-equipped 2019 Kia Sorento should be in the range of around 5,000 pounds.
Results from both the IIHS and the NHTSA – government bodies charged with the responsibility of examining a vehicle safety – show that the previous model earned a top five star rating for overall crash protection from the NHTSA and a “Good” score from the IIHS.
2019 Kia Sorento Competitors
This segment isn’t short on options. Depending on what you’re looking for, plenty of options are available. Some of these include Jeep Grand Cherokee, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, and Ford Edge. The Toyota Highlander and the Hyundai Santa Fe are the best options for three-row competitors.
We particularly like the way Kia brings such rich options to buyers who’re looking for a spacious vehicle. In overall, we find it to be a wise option for anyone looking for a well-equipped and spacious vehicle that can haul your family and their stuff.
