We have been seeing the newest 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE-class very often in the last few months. Although we haven’t seen the stripped down version, details are emerging one by one. The newest spy photos of the new Mercedes-Benz GLE-class have shown new headlights and the rest has already been seen. However, the frequency of sightings is clearly a sign that we will soon see the official debut of the new GLE-class.
Mercedes allegedly invented the luxury SUV segment with their first original Mercedes ML which debuted in 1998. However, did they forget about the Range Rover? Let’s just presume that they are right. They started this class as M class with an ML badge. That same class was renamed to GLE for the 2016 model. This class is above the GLA and GLC, while it seats below the GLS and G-wagen.
The design is entirely new and Mercedes needed that in order to modernize this model and to bring it to the standards, closer to their competition. The new model will be lighter and will have the updated interior, and driver assistance systems.
2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE Release Date
Mercedes has not revealed the precise release date for the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE, however, there are some rumors that it will come out sometime during 2018 as a 2019 model. We will know more about that next month at the North American International Auto Show. We are assuming that Mercedes will at least reveal some new details if not the entire production-ready vehicle.
2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE Price
The next Mercedes-Benz GLE price range is going to similar to the current model. It will probably start at $71,495 for the AMG GLE 43 4 MATIC Coupe and end up with $113,000 for the AMG GLE 63S 4MATIC Coupe.
2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE Design
The Mercedes-Benz GLE design that we had an opportunity to see on spy photos is mostly hidden under the camouflage. However, we could make out some of the details like the new massive grille and more angular headlight shape. The body will have a more aggressive look with wide wheel arches and a narrow cabin. You can’t look at it and not remember the legendary Mercedes G-class.
Mercedes has adopted the new MRA platform that will put 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE on a rigorous diet. That will help this already aged GLE fight extremely tough competition on the SUV market.
That “diet” will also help the new Mercedes-Benz GLE performance.
2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE Interior
There were some spy photos of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE interior, however, they went all “top secret” with this one. We were unable to see any materials and actual changes in the cabin because everything was covered with cloth. Details that we could see in those photos reminded us of what we could have already seen on the Mercedes E-Class. The dashboard is now, equipped with a familiar dual-screen design and the dashboard looks like it has something that looks like a regular smartphone screen which is probably there for the infotainment control.
2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE Engine Specs
There are a couple possibilities for the 2019 GLE engines lineup. Since it was meant to be competitive against the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne, it has to be strong. On the top of that, we already know that MHA and MRA platforms can accommodate four-, six-, and eight-cylinder engines with rear and AWD configurations. Our best guess is the 4-liter twin turbo V8 engine which was reserved for the Mercedes AMG GLE63. Diesel and plug-in hybrids are also a possibility, although the diesel is not likely to appear on the US market. Whatever they choose, it will be stronger than 500 hp.
2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE Main Competition
We live in an age in which this car has lots of competition. I mean the strongest ones are of course Audi Q7, BMW X5, and Porsche Cayenne. However, we can’t talk about its competition and not to mention the Land Rover Discovery, Lexus RX, Lincoln MKX, and Volvo XC90. There is a lot at stake here and 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE must not fail!
And if this customer’s behavior continues, Mercedes will surely make a new generation of the GLE Coupe soon after the release of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE.
