2019 Volkswagen Jetta will be the next model of a well known compact car produced by the German manufacturer Volkswagen since 1979. It was originally made to be an adjusted version of the Golf hatchback. It has been offered in two- and four-door sedan and five-door wagon/ estate versions. All of those models were five-seaters.
The last generation of the Volkswagen Jetta was launched in 2010 and production for the US market began that same year in Puebla, Mexico. Every new model has is larger than its predecessor and this is also the case with the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. Aside from that, Volkswagen also tried to keep costs down, and that is why they removed all the luxury elements from the American model. We will know more about everything after the official debut which should happen next month, during the 2018 North American International Auto Show (January 13 – 28, 2018).
2019 Volkswagen Jetta Release Date
The release date of the new 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is probably going to happen during the fall of 2018. However, we should wait for the official date to be revealed during the Detroit Auto Show.
2019 Volkswagen Jetta Price
Since there is no official info on this subject we can only presume that prices won’t be higher than of the current model. It will probably go from $17,900 to $30,000.
2019 Volkswagen Jetta Exterior
The official debut and the first place where we are going to have an opportunity to see the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta exterior for the first time without all the covers and camouflage color is going to be the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. But right now, there isn’t much official info about what to expect.
The one thing we know for sure is that the Volkswagen is officially adopting the new platform, but the company hasn’t released the official info on the drivetrain and the technology behind it. We do have some sketches which are telling us one thing, that VW has finally adopted one corporate design that can be seen throughout their vehicle lineup which we have already seen on larger models of Passat and the Arteon sedans.
Judging by those sketches and spy photos we got last month, we can conclude that VW is going with a new cleaner look with angular lines. It is obvious that Jetta was inspired by the design of the larger Passat. If we compare the new look with the last year’s model, we can see that Jetta has gone through many useful changes. However, we can’t say that 2019 Volkswagen Jetta exterior looks revolutionary. We can only see that VW is using the same design throughout their lineup and that recipe seems to work like charm.
Naturally, we can’t expect from sketches to be the direct representation of the finished product. Here and there we can see design details borrowed from both, larger Passat and Arteon, but those cues, together with some exaggerated design features that won’t be on the finished model. But one thing is sure; the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is going to look better than ever. However, most of those sketches are showing us an R-Spec model so we can’t expect the entry-level model to look this good.
The first thing we noticed was the massive front grille with larger-than-ever vents and some pretty furious headlamps. The taillights are most certainly borrowed from the Audi A4. That is nothing unusual because the Volkswagen group engineers have already done that with their Seat.
- Exterior looks like it is borrowed from larger Passat;
- It Has Aggressive sporty lines;
- Body is longer;
- The rear end is most likely inspired by the Audi A4.
2019 Volkswagen Jetta Interior
Those 2019 Volkswagen Jetta interior sketches throw some light to the area we haven’t had an opportunity to see. The overall design with the central console is already familiar because we have seen it on the Golf and Passat. However, the dashboard design has never been seen and it is something that makes this interior stick out from the rest of MQB designed vehicles. The new 2019 Volkswagen Jetta has the traditional A/C vents and a huge screen in the center console. That console is no longer at the bottom or in the middle. It is placed at the top of the line with the instrument cluster. And we don’t have to mention that this will be the first time in Jetta that we will have a fully digital instrument cluster.
- New modern design of the cabin;
- Digital instrument cluster;
- Huge infotainment system.
2019 Volkswagen Jetta Engine Specs
MQB platform is finally coming to the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta. That platform can be stretched in any direction except for the distance between the front axle and the pedals. That same platform is shared with many other VW Group’s vehicles like Audi A3, Atlas, Arteon, Polo, Audi A3 and many others.
It is rumored that 2019 Volkswagen Jetta will come with two engines to the United States. The same sources of those rumors say that we will get the base model with a turbocharged, 1.4-liter four-cylinder. Higher trims will come with the larger, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with eight-speed automatic transmission. The 6-speed manual transmission is also a possibility for the weaker engines.
We are assuming that VW will not release this vehicle without a hybrid option, but that is yet to be confirmed.
- The base model will come with a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine;
- Second possibility is the turbocharged 2.0 liter;
- It will be built on the new platform;
- Hybrid engine is a possibility.
