2018 Acura NSX

With highlights such as a comfortable cabin, an exotic style, a new hybrid powertrain and a sophisticated all-wheel drive capable of an outstanding performance, the new 2018 Acura NSX promises nothing short of a triumphant return of a vehicle that was once revered for its supercar performance. Details regarding its release date are still under wraps, but I vouch its availability in the first half of next year.

New features on the new 2018 Acura NSX include extensive use of aluminum metal on body panels, dramatic interior styling, a brawny powertrain, and lots of new technologies.

Four years ago, the new 2018 Acura NSX began its return to the collective automotive consciousness during the then Detroit Auto Show when the automaker showcased its first concept model. Later on, during the Super Bowl commercials featuring both Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfield signaled the revival of the production model of the new NSX.

However, Acura says the reason for the delay was occasioned by the fact that the development stage had thwarted its plans of offering it earlier, as there were some few details they were still working on.

Similar to the first model that debuted, the new NSX derives its power from a V6 which comes paired to a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission system, which is tasked with the responsibility of routing the power generated to the rear wheel drive system.

The V6 is also augmented by one lithium-ion battery and three electric motors. One of the electric motors helps quicken gear changes through either slowing or spiking engine speed during shifts, and provides also the torque surge and regenerative braking before the turbos get to full throttle.

There is no independence between the rear and front end, as there isn’t any direct connection between the front wheels and the V6. This mishap is corrected by the mini supercomputers that work synergistically to ensure the setup provided precise response and handling.

The exact specifications haven’t been shared by Acura, but we expect the hyped V6 powertrain to deliver anything in the neighborhood of 500 horsepower. Throw in the output from the two FWD motors and anything 550 hp is probable.

Even so, fault-finding has yielded several foibles. As much as the new technology is welcome, it also adds weight as well. The cost and complexity are also other notable cons. As such, it would be wise to consider what the competition offers. In terms of cost, both the Porsche 911 Turbo and the Audi R8 V10 are the closest you can get. The 911 Turbo offers features such as respectable fuel economy, daily-driver seat comfort and ride quality, masterful handling, endless customization possibilities, indefatigable engines, and soulful engines.

The Audi R8 V10, on the other hand, offers an intoxicating soundtrack regardless of the engine choice, a comfortable cabin, quick-shifting automated manual and traditional manual transmission systems, and an easy to drive character.

2018 Acura NSX Engine Specs & Test Drive

Motivation is offered by a dry-sump, twin-turbo, 3.5L V6 engine rated at 500 horsepower and 406 lbs. ft. of torque. It’s fed by both port and direct injection, and pulls the red line faster than a Honda with its impressive 7,500 rpm. The standard transmission system is a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission.

On board also are three electric motors. Further aback, there is on motor that can contribute about 47 hp and 109 lbs. ft. of torque, and two others up front that power each wheel with about 36 hp and 54 lbs. ft. of torque.

Although not confirmed, zipping from 0-60 mph takes under 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of about 190 mph.

This electric motors are used by the system to fill in the powerband with their instant, brilliant torque while the turbos wake up. In fact, you’d probably not know whether they exist if not for the off-throttle chatter and the whistle of forced induction.
