Historically reliable, fun to drive, and appealing design elements, the new 2019 Honda Civic is almost ready. Again, the Honda Civic is a go-to option for shoppers in the compact-car segment thanks to features such as a well-built interior, fuel-efficient four-cylinder engines, and a spacious back seat. While the Civic does a great job in balancing the scales to its advantage, it does have its low points also.
2019 Honda Civic Release Date & Price
Details concerning the release date are yet to be offered thus far. But our moles say we can expect the vehicle sometime in September 2018. As for the price, expect the vehicle to cost around $20K.
2019 Honda Civic Review
According to various online sources, the new 2019 Honda Civic model is set to feature some evolutionary changes that are aimed at refreshing it in this rival-infested segment. Some of these include an updated interior – both in terms of material quality and design, superior engine – in terms of efficiency and performance, and general exterior designs changes.
The Honda Civic Type R in particular is set to feature a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine rated at 320 hp. The power will then be mated to a six-speed manual transmission system and a front-wheel drive. For an extra cost however, buyers will have an option of opting for the continuous variable transmission system.
The 320 horsepower will be an increase of around 14 horsepower over the outgoing model. The outgoing model is fitted with a 2L four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 306 horsepower and 295 lbs. ft. of torque. According to the EPA, the 2.0L engine aforementioned returned 25 mpg for combined city and highway cruising. According to Honda, the existing Civic Type R 0-60 mph should be achieved in about 5.7 seconds and go on thereafter to earn a top speed of 169 mph.
Back to the regular model, news of the 2019 Honda Civic engine specs are yet to be released by Honda but we expect the new model to get a better performance than that offered by the current 1.5L turbocharged engine that gets the Civic from 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds.
For 2019, we still expect the Civic to be offered in several body styles – hatchback and coupe body styles. Also, the Type R and Civic Si should also be on offer. Regardless of the body style one choses or will choose, one will quickly notice how well the Civic rides and handles. It is one vehicle that you can always count on for a composed ride quality devoid of a feeling of harshness.
The Honda Civic underwent a complete redesign two years ago, where it received few key additions that were deemed necessary at that time. See, this class of subcompact cars is always changing and necessary updates and refreshments are needed once in a while to keep buyers and enthusiasts excited. That said, the then Civic received a turbocharged engine, a more powerful Civic Type R, and the popular Si model.
Although Honda is yet to offer any concrete info of what we should expect, we still expect a variety of body styles and trim models for the 2019 model year. In terms of trim models, we should expect LX, EX, EX-T, EX-L, Si, and Touring. Body styles should be sedan, coupe and hatchback.
In terms of competition, the 2019 Honda Civic will ultimately come head to head with the Ford Focus Sedan and the Mazda 3 Sedan. The Focus sedan is a great option for people looking for high-tech interior options, sporty handling, and a comfortable ride. The price for the most basic model should start at around $17,650. The Mazda 3 Sedan on the other hand is just more than a basic form of transportation – its versatile, entertaining, and classy car to drive. Its pricing starts at around $20K.
2019 Honda Civic Interior Updates & Exterior Changes
Past Honda Civic users should definitely agree with me on how well the exterior features a mix of eyebrow-raising exuberance and eye-pleasing details. But even those who find gripes with it, one thing’s for sure, the appearance has nothing offensive.
Honda is quite mum on the features that the 2019 Honda Civic is going to offer especially judging from the density of the camo used to conceal the juicy details. But just to offer some insights, the existing Civic Sedan measures 70.8-inches in width, 182.3 inches in length, and rises 55.7 inches higher. The dimensions of the Civic hatchback only differ in terms of the height and length, which fall slightly lower than those of the Civic Sedan.
In side to side comparison against other vehicles in this niche that include Hyundai Elantra, Mazda 3 Sedan, Toyota Corolla, and the Chevrolet Cruz Sedan, the Honda Civic comes third in terms of length. The Elantra takes the title of the shortest while the Chevrolet Cruz takes the prize of being the longest.
In terms of the interior, we’ve found past users of the Civic appreciative of how practical and modern it looks. Again, rumors allege the upcoming model is set to gain changes aimed at making it a bit more voluptuous and have more storage space.
But inasmuch we find the existing Honda Civic and the new 2019 Civic by extension to be appealing options, there’re still things that make us think there’re lot of things still on our desire-list. Material quality isn’t of high quality specially those on the dashboard and steering wheel.
