It is official – the 2019 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is on sale! You can order it, you can see the production-ready version, and get your new beautiful baby in November of this year (2018). And you can become one of the first people to actually get a new version of Gran Coupe almost 20 years after it was discontinued. They needed those 20 years to think of a way to merge the sporty feel of a racing car and an elegance of the BMW. And what they did is something we have seen a year ago, on a concept car, but didn’t believe that the design would transfer to the production car. It was too perfect…
The 2019 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe Release Date and Price
You will not have to wait long for the new 2019 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. It has already gone on sale and the first deliveries are arriving during the November of 2018. Price range will from $99,500 for 2019 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe 840d xDrive, to $130,500 for a M850i xDrive.
The Beautiful Design of a 2019 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe Exterior
This second generation of the BMW 8 Series will replace the 6 Series F13. This will be a resurrection injection to a model that has been dead since 1999. It was discontinued because of low demand and lousy sales. However, the world economy has gone through a lot since then and they (obviously) have a healthy market for this kind of a car.
The 2019 BMW 8 Series exterior has not moved far from the concept car we saw at 2017 Villa d’Este (which is a good thing). It is built to be a sports car mixed with elegance and BMW’s engineers did a magnificent job. It has a clean design sculpted with sharp lines, slim headlights and taillights, air intakes, deltoid exhausts, and a really long hood. And while we are at the front, we can’t just go through it and not mention the new design of the BMW’s signature grille. It is now one single large piece rather than divided into two. And the actual shape is more aggressive. The edges are now sharper and the grille itself sits lower at the front and gives the car more presence and an attitude of a sports car.
OLED headlights are standard with an option to upgrade to laser headlights. They go around the side of the vehicle. And at the very bottom of the front, it has a new splitter that should keep the car on the ground at high speeds. It also has a hidden radar sensor to help you drive safe.
The muscularity of the 2019 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is even augmented by beautiful contours on the hood which are also present at the sides where they get combined with pretty sharp skirts. And at the back, you have a lip spoiler (M850i has one, M840d doesn’t).
The 2019 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe Interior
You should expect only the top-notch interior on the 2019 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. Everything from the BMW M Performance steering wheel (and other tiny M Performance details), gesture-controlled infotainment system, Digital Live Cockpit, 360 view, stainless steel trim, etc. It is basically like a luxurious Porsche 911. However, this car is not a family car. At the back, there is no room for two grownups.
The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe Engine Specs
The entry level of the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe 840d xDrive will be powered by a six-cylinder in-line turbocharged 3.0-liter engine that produces 316 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. It will go from 0-60 in brief 4.9 seconds.
Fuel consumption for 840d xDrive is somewhere around 46mpg.
The next model is the M850i xDrive that will have 4.4-liter turbo V8 petrol engine that produces 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. It goes from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. Top speed is 150mph. Pretty limited, but we have no idea what is going to happen with M8 if this luxurious edition already does this…
Fuel consumption for M850i xDrive is 28.3mpg.
It is amazing how we got to the year in which we get at least two “dead” legends. Supra is definitely coming back and now we are on the brink of seeing the legendary EIGHT on the roads.
This 2019 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is going to be the mixture of sports and elegance in the shape of BMW you haven’t seen before. It will be the starting point for their future models and the direction of their entire company. It will literally be their flagship for the future and one of the prettiest, quickest and fastest cars in the segment. And if that is not enough for you, the M8 is also on the way.
