2017 Jeep Patriot

Given the excellence of its rivals, there’s little reason to consider the 2017 Jeep Patriot aside from its low price tag. Highlights for 2017 include an above-average capability, comfortable front seats, an attractive price, and an optional flip-down tailgate speakers. Its release date should be expected sometime in early 2017, although this is based on speculation.

It continues to be a stronger despite being among the last vestiges of the Bad Old Days at Chrysler. Why? For one, the Patriot is the least expensive way of getting a Jeep on your driveway. And secondly, it simply because it’s a Jeep! A brand name often associated with off-road prowess and stylish character.

Although available for an extra cost, the Freedom Drive II Off-Road Group promises to transform any trim model into an excellent off-roader. The CVT also returns for the 2017 model year, and its fuel sapping and unimpressive power attribute tags along with it. And regardless of the engine it comes paired with, both power and efficiency are robbed off. You however have the option of pairing with a six-speed automatic transmission system that offers a better performance but comes nothing close to what the CVT and Freedom Drive II combo offers.

While its interior has seen multiple upgrades over the years, it is among the most basic you can get around. Most surfaces are covered by cheap, hard plastic and the steering is tilt-only for the base model. On the upside though, the front seats are pretty cozy and offer impressive support even in mundane conditions. Further aback, the bottom cushion sits low, and the legroom is rather tight, therefore negating the gains made by the reclining rear seatbacks offered by the Latitude trim model.

The generally ergonomic controls, and the primary gauges make a good impression with their straightforward, large, and easy-to-read font and are consistent with Jeep’s no-nonsense heritage. Just as has been Jeep’s trend, the new model also comes with flip-down liftgate speakers that go a long way in helping the party get started.

As much as the Patriot appeals on some arears, there are others where it is laden with foibles. These include the minimal cargo space, a sluggish and unrefined base engine, chintzy cabin, subpar crash test scores, and an unpleasant CVT system. Well, if you can’t live with such cons, there are several options the segment offers. These include the 2017 Mazda CX-3, the 2017 Honda HR-V, and Jeep’s Renegade for 2017.
