2018 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Review

2018 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Release Date, Price, Specs, Review – Journalists and truck enthusiasts have long swooned over the possibility of the 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor. The vehicle was first introduced five years ago and proved it could be a Baja trophy truck with sales targeted towards the average Joe. In this review you’ll find out about the car’s price, release date and many more!

The vehicle was fitted with a 5.4L V8 engine which ensured it gave the truck the title of a heavy bruiser when it came down to off-road muscle and performance. However, with the new vehicle things are expected to be much better thanks to the new F-150 body design and aluminum body work, upgraded interior design, beefy high-strength steel frame, and yes, Ford’s EcoBoost technology.

That said, the new vehicle will be ditching the 6.2L V8 high output engine of the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine. Some concerned with the SVT Raptor losing its much acclaimed mojo, well, the automaker says that the new high-strung EcoBoost has the capability of cranking out about 411 hp and 434 pounds of torque. The engine is also backed by a 10-speed auto transmission system that is controlled by a new Terrain management system.

Add that to the lightweight body of the V6 and the aluminum skin, and you certainly get an SVT that tips 500 pounds lighter in the scales. While the weight reduction might not be as much as that of the standard F-150 which lost about 700 pounds, the 200 pounds difference is as a result of Raptor’s strengthened frame. Yes, strengthened beyond the newly upgraded 2015 F-150 frame.

Beside the base F-150 model, which is enough to take the competition all on its own, the Raptor battles against the Chevy Silverado models, GMC Sierra 1500, RAM 1500, Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra models, respectively.

Exterior Design

The exterior appearance of the 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor is rumored to be the next big thing that will set the SVT above its competitors. It will make a debut with same design language as the 2015 F-150 vehicle, but will be widened by approximately 6” to increase its stability.

The front and rear bumpers are raised to unmatched departure and approach angles. The headlights will come infused with the latest there is in LED lighting technology and will be able to reach further than the halogen bulbs enabling it light up even the darkest desert trail.

The 17” wheels will come wrapped in BF Goodrich’s newest edition of the iconic All-Terrain TA tire, popularly known as the K02. These tires are designed to enhance the trucks ability to loose sand, prevent chunking on rocky terrain and self-clean.

The side running boards, large fender flares and side graphics will all make a comeback but will be updated nonetheless. Around back, there will be the iconic ‘FORD’ lettering that stretches from one side to another.

Interior Photos

The interior of the new vehicle will also be adorned with new and exciting features. New novelties include the upgraded overhead console with six up-fitter controls and switches for the moonroof, unique seats with suede and leather inserts, F1-style paddle shifters, a suede and leather strapped steering wheels, and carbon fiber accents adorning key areas within the cabin.

Just like the base F-150, there will be a large digital display that makes home the driver’s gauge cluster that shows important details such as the mechanical stats, countless pages of information like off-road info.

At this point in time, Ford hasn’t made any mention of cab configurations yet, but it’s almost a guarantee that both the Crew Cab and extended can configurations will be offered.

Engine Specs

Plenty of updates will be provided under the hood of the new vehicle. First, there will be the 2nd generation 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine. The twin-turbo engine will be able to yield more power than the outgoing model’s engine – 6.2L V8. The output is rated at around 411 hp and 434 pounds of torque.

During a TV interview with Fox Sports, Ford’s Global Product Development Vice President Raj Nair made an unprecedented news, he said that the 3.5L engine will be able to produce 450 horsepower in the SVT Raptor. This will be in line with Ford’s earlier announcement that the engine would be able to generate more than 411 hp.

Paired to the EcoBoost engine is a new 10-speed auto transmission system with F1-style paddle shifters. However, the new transmission is not meant to aid the new 2018 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor with fuel economy, but will provide the best gearing for both low and high-speed off-roading capability.
