2017 has been a really important year for Volkswagen. They debuted Atlas, the redesigned Tiguan, and they introduced the all-new 2019 Volkswagen Arteon which is maybe one of the most beautiful Volkswagens out there. It has an awesome design with an aerodynamic and sleek form with LED lights, chrome accents, frameless windows and a number of different features inside and outside. Volkswagen will use this vehicle to attack Audi, BMW, and Mercedes, and it will completely replace the CC with this 2019 Volkswagen Arteon.
What Do You Need To Know About The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon?
Volkswagen is pretty proud of the 2019 Arteon. They are investing a lot of money into marketing and actually informing their potential customers about what to expect. That is why they presented all the good and bad things but spiced those bad things with more good things. VW describes this vehicle as an “avant-garde gran Turismo” which found its place just above the current Passat in the VW’s lineup. It is one of those cars which offers a balanced ride, excellent handling, lively engine, and an extremely high-quality workmanship and materials. It is designed as a direct competitor to some of the best premium four-door coupes like the BMW 4 series, Audi A5, and Mercedes-Benz CLS.
The Meaning of The Name
Arteon is actually a nonexistent word. It is a neologism that is actually a combination of two words – Art and Eon. That means “Supreme Deity” in VW’s opinion. That is a total departure from their traditional names which are actually grounded in nature, history, and myths.
One More in VW’s Family
VW is a company which main business is manufacturing and selling saloons, estates, hatchbacks, and SUVs. That is why they haven’t paid much attention to coupes. They had only three of those until the last year. Those were the Beetle, CC, and of course Scirocco. The CC was the main representative of that class and the biggest one in the family. Arteon is larger. To be more precise, it is 60mm longer, 16mm wider and 33mm taller than the VW CC. On the top of all, there is 127mm (5″) more space between the front and rear wheels.
The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon is an all-new model and it looks really fresh when you compare it to anything that they have to offer. However, the main platform for every Volkswagen vehicle is the well-known MQB platform. That is the shared platform for every model from Polo to the Sharan and also between many models of Audi, Seat, and Skoda.
The shared platform is actually the base for all the designers and engineers. They don’t have to create their vehicles from scratch, and it is easier to find spare parts for the vehicles that share the same platform. However, because of that shared platform, you have to expect many similarities between the models.
Nevertheless, the 2019 Volkswagen will be the all-new model, and the chances are that no one else in the street (and quite possibly in your hometown) will have one too.
2019 Volkswagen Arteon’s Exterior
The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon’s exterior is rich with details that make it wider and more muscular than it really is and it is further enhancing its sporty image. Actually, many design cues resemble the well known Passat. However, it has some unique design features to make it stand out. The first thing is a clamshell hood just like on a premium car. And there is one small detail with the hood that we found interesting. It somehow hangs over the headlights and giving it a bit angrier face. The front headlamps are very elegantly mounted into the grille and there is a strong line that runs from the headlamps around the entirety of the car, making the hips (or shoulders) of the vehicle wider, just like on the BMW 4 series.
2019 Volkswagen Arteon’s Interior
And with that kind of luxurious and simply beautiful exterior, you would think that the interior will follow. But that is not the case. It is true that the quality of the interior is pretty high but it looks almost the same as on the Passat. It is made of better materials, but it is the same design.
The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon interior does have some advanced features like Active info Display (VW Digital Cockpit), Discover Pro infotainment system with a 9.2-inch display screen and gesture controls, a head-up display and a pretty good ambient lighting.
On the practical side, that 9.2-inch glass screen is not something you would like to handle during the actual driving. It is too big for the gestures, and knobs would be more practical.
There are enough headroom and legroom in the back, however, if you try to compare the quality of driving with some of the competitors, you would find that noise and vibration levels go below the standards for the class, VW is trying to hit with this car. However, VW knows that and that is why it is offering this much luxury for the amount of money we are going to discuss.
2019 Volkswagen Arteon Trim Levels
The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon will come in Elegance and R-Line Tri levels with the base model coming after them.
The Elegance Trim level will come with some higher class aesthetic enhancements like LED taillights with indicators that will go from inboard to outboard as they are giving the signal, there will be a continuous chrome strip on the lower body and heated windshield wiper nozzles. The INTERIOR will come with contrast stitching on Alcantara and leather seat covers, contrast stitching on mats, and heated front seats.
The R-Line will be a more aggressive, with air intakes at the front side, and sporty bumpers. The INTERIOR will come with black roof lines, R-Line logo throughout the interior (including seats and door plates), the sporty R-Line flat-bottomed steering wheel, and a special 20″ wheels and a lower ride height for the European models. The US version is allegedly not going to get those 20s.

There are 6 available engines to choose from – three diesel and three gasoline engines.

Technology and Driver Assistance
The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon is featuring VW’s driver assistance system which includes an Adaptive Cruise Control with Predictive Cruise Control, Advanced Dynamic Cornering Light, Adaptive Chassis Control, Emergency Assist, Side Assist, Proactive Occupant Protection System and Area View. And what does this mean?
All those devices practically take care of you, the driver. It will use your GPS position and satellite data to determine your position and adjust the strength and the angle of your headlights depending on the angle of the curves on the road. It will also use the satellite image to slow down the vehicle in front of the intersection, curve or some danger on the road. And the car can also detect if something is wrong with you. For example, if you don’t have your hands on the steering wheel for some time, it will notify you to put your hands back on the steering wheel. If you don’t comply with that, it will try to wake you up with a sound, and if that thing fails, it will turn on the hazard lights, pull over to the side of the road and call for the emergency service and ambulance.
2019 Volkswagen Arteon Release Date and Price
According to some sources, we won’t have to wait a long time for this beauty. In fact, the 2019 Volkswagen release date is scheduled for the summer of 2018 and the price will certainly be one thing that is going to bother everyone.
The cheapest version of the 2019 Volkswagen Arteon will be around $38,000. That will make it competitive with other premium vehicles, but although this one looks like a premium, you can find Mercedes E class, BMW 4 and Audi A4 for the same or similar price.
At the end of the day, this 2019 Volkswagen Areon is a brave move from VW. They are trying to make something new and competitive. And it will be. It will go head to head with the “big boys” like Audi, BMW, and Audi. However, in spite of its bold and premium design, it hasn’t quite reached that level of premium that is being offered by its competitors but it is good enough. On the brighter side, this vehicle is certainly going to turn some heads wherever it appears because it is a brand new model.
The elegant exterior, nice and premium (although borrowed from Passat) interior and all TOP OF THE LINE safety features certainly make this car worth of your money and your time.
