The Best New Cars for 2019

new cars 2019

Since we are in the middle of the 2017/2018 auto show season it is not surprising that there is a lot of info about the 2019 model year. And boy, the things are going to get interesting. We are not saying that the current lineups are bad; we are just saying that year after year we have been getting the same things over and over again. Aerodynamics, power, and luxury have been in the main focus for car manufacturers ever since Ford revolutionized the entire process.

Nothing changed until recently. The first departure is hybrids/ EVs. And while some think that electric vehicles are doomed, their success is, in fact inevitable and all car manufacturers are adapting to the new revolution. That is why we should expect new hybrids and full EV models that will blow everyone away! And not just that! Some of the most legendary cars that have been discontinued for a long time, are now being restored to their rightful place.

And believe me, 2019 will be the year for all the automobile fanatics out there. You can expect EVs, sports cars, SUVs, hybrids, etc. Hack, we will even see a hybrid version of the Ford Mustang! Can you imagine the silent Mustang? I know that I can’t…

Among all other models, you should expect the return of the compact Ford Ranger, a completely new Acura RDX and Porsche Mission E, and redesigned versions of the full-size Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Ram 1500, and GMC Sierra 1500.

Scroll down and learn more about all the redesigned and brand new models.

We can only hope that the production model is not going to take away anything from the concept we had an opportunity to see at the Tokyo Auto Show.

It is a bit embarrassing that nobody has the slightest idea about how the production car is really going to look like. There is only this “concept version” shown in 2015. First glimpses of the production car are expected to roll out early in 2019 since the Aston Martin DBX (Varekai) is scheduled to be released late in 2019. However, we do know that this is going to be a high-end SUV that will rival the Porsche Cayenne, Maserati Levante, and Lamborghini Urus.

And one very interesting detail is that this car wouldn’t even be impossible without the Chinese market.

2019 Subaru Ascent review

The 2019 Subaru Ascent will be Subaru’s biggest vehicle ever! It will even be larger than Outback and Forester! And instead of offering a bunch of different engines and really having to pay some extra bucks for the “turbo version”, Subaru decided to install the same gasoline engine in all the models – and that is a 2.4 litre direct injection turbo engine that will provide this vehicle with 260 hp and a really decent fuel economy (8.9 L/100km on a highway).

2019 Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo

You see, the regular Mission E was presented at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show. That time, it was used as some sort of a reaction gauge. They saw the positive response and decided to go forward with it. That is why the Porsche started thinking about the future and saw what their competitors were doing. They especially looked at “Tesla” and their plans. And when you look at the 2019 Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo, you have to think about Tesla Model X. Somehow, this looks like the beginning of a beautiful rivalry.

The Mission E is extremely fast. Porsche claims 600PS (590 hp).

2019 Jaguar I-Pace

We don’t have the general consensus about EVs. Some people say that electric cars are doomed to fail while others are pretty sure that EVs are the future. Either way, electric vehicles are on the rise right now and gas prices will not go down anytime soon – everyone’s thinking about the production of EVs. That is why Jaguar introduced the 2019 I-Pace, which is a true EV. They think that this vehicle could challenge the amazing Tesla Model X. It will use two electric motors and it will deliver a total output of 394 hp.

Maybe the best EV out there!

2019 Mercedes EQ C

I remember the time (and that was only a few years ago) when fuel-eating-monster SUVs were the biggest trend in car production. However, electrification is quickly overtaking that place under the spotlight. That’s a necessity! However, even the right combination of the two main trends could be the right formula for success. This is exactly what Mercedes is doing right now. The new 2019 Mercedes EQ will be the first of all EQ models to be based on the new scalable EV platform. The size of this SUV won’t go too far from the current GLC and it will have two electric motors. Range? Well, nothing less than 250 miles on one charge.

Price: $59,230 (est)

On Sale: 2019

2019 Mercedes GLA

The all-new 2019 Mercedes GLA will be a direct competitor to the Audi Q3 and BMW X1. However, it will follow the formula presented with the official A-Class lineup. That is why you should expect the same platform with the same engine lineup and the same interior… Well, almost the same interior.

Mini EV

Mini is already a legendary small city car, however, the EV version makes room for some nice visual innovations. For example, that unique flat grille we had an opportunity to see on the 2017 concept is a cool detail, and we certainly hope that it will find its place in the production model. We haven’t got a clue about powertrain options because that is a secret… However, we can assume that whatever powertrain they choose, the range will not be shorter than 190 miles.

2019 Audi A6

According to our sources, the 2019 Audi A6 is going to go through a complete redesign. That will be the second redesign since 2012. And we are not saying that the last redesign was bad… In the end, it introduced 30 different colors for the ambient lighting… If that isn’t cool, I don’t know what is… Now, jokes aside, the design will get some sharper edges and more options for the exterior.

We are going to see two engines in the lineup – turbocharged 2.0L (250 hp) and turbocharged 3.0L V6 (340 hp). The S6 will come with twin-turbocharged V6.

The manufacturer claims that this car will have the range of 93 miles on a single charge.

2019 Audi A7

Audi A7 is considered to be one of the most luxurious cars on the market. Audi will do everything that’s in their power to keep it that way in the years to come. The new 2019 Audi A7 will offer a fresh design and a turbocharged 3.0L V6 engine with 340 hp. You know what that means? 0 – 60 in 5s and a top speed of 150 mph!

The 2019 Audi A7 also features a mild-hybrid system that shuts off the engine at stoplights. That same system (outside of US) has a feature that shuts off the engine between 35 and 99 mph and saves fuel. However, that kind of a system is “too slow” for the US standards so it won’t come to the “states”.

On Sale: Summer 2018

2019 Audi A8

The 2019 model will also get a complete redesign, hybrid version and level 3-autonomy. It will be a mild-hybrid just like its siblings. That basically means that it will have an alternator that will be used to help the A8’s stop-start function. Upon the release, the A8 will be offered with a turbocharged V6 engine with 340hp. After that, we expect one more optional engine, the 4.0-liter V8 engine that will be capable of achieving close to 460hp.

Price: $104,690

2019 Range Rover Evoque Mk2

The Range Rover Evoque is Land Rover’s biggest success. It has the great styling, efficient engines, and excellent off-road capabilities. On the other hand, it is not as spacious as its rivals and it is pretty expensive. The Mk2 will not be different from the original model, judging by first official photos. However, we do think that there is a hybrid in their plans.

Price: $41,900 (est)

On Sale: 2019

2019 BMW X7

The 2019 BMW X7 is only the next model in BMW X’s lineup. It will be the brand new large SUV model made for up to seven people. The concept model we all had an opportunity to see offered a twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine with one electric motor.

This all means that we are going to get the new model that will (logically) borrow some details from its siblings and that will build upon those borrowed elements. This again means a new hybrid and quite possibly some sort of autonomous technology.

On Sale: Winter, 2018

2019 Renault Clio

Well, I remember that my best friend used to drive Clio. It was an older version, but he simply adored it because of its fuel efficiency and functionality. I don’t even have to tell you how much he was surprised by the new design. And that same design will make the 2019 Renault Clio a star of the Paris Motor Show that will take place in September 2018. And as you can see from the picture, Renault Clio is not a small (girly) city car. It boasts with its sharp lines and sporty look. Renault has even hinted that Clio is going to get a mild-hybrid version. We don’t know why they are all going with that expression, “mild hybrid”. It is like some companies are afraid to say that they have hybrids!

2019 Cadillac XT4

We have already had an opportunity to see the luxury midsize SUV called Cadillac XT5. That was a 2017 model. People like SUVs and it seems like they will never get old. It is going to be released with all the gadgets you like, including the 4G LTE connectivity, surround vision, and a number of trims. As far as engine lineup is considered, we expect only one engine option, the inline-four engine with 237 hp.

2019 Skoda Superb

There were all sorts of “leaks” and rumors about some huge update for the new 2019 Skoda Superb. However, all this was a lie. New spy shots have surfaced that did show some minor changes, but nothing relevant enough to be mentioned. Slightly different headlights, and an extra curve on bumpers and the grille. That thing that lies under the hood is a different story. This will be the first hybrid for Skoda. You can expect the range of 44 miles.

Price:$ 27,500

2019 Skoda Vision X

Skoda has 10 different plug-in hybrids in their lineup before 2025. The next in line is this, 2019 Skoda Vision X. We all had an opportunity to see this as a concept car in the Geneva Motor Show. And since Skoda almost always sticks to the original plan and concept, we don’t think that many things are going to change on the production car. We don’t have any credible info about the things that are under the hood, but we do strongly believe that this car is going to get a hybrid version.

2019 Honda Insight

Well, as you might remember (and maybe not) Honda Insight was a car ahead of its time. 20 years ago, Insight was the first modern hybrid car sold on in the US. However, it was discontinued in the 2000s. The second generation of this car was produced from 2010 to 2014 and it was discontinued one more time. This will be the third generation and it now looks like a normal, conventional sedan. However, this “normal, conventional” sedan’s fuel consumption will be 50 mpg (at least).

2019 Suzuki Jimny

Suzuki Jimny has always been one of those vehicles that will provide you with “raw” ride. The design has always been considered as outdated and low-budget, AND things are not going to change with the 2019 Suzuki Jimny. As we can see from spy photos, Jimny will retain its boxy look with some minor changes in style. However, this small car is pretty capable on and off the road. They can upgrade the interior with some gadgets but we will have to check the quality of the ride before giving you any reliable info about those changes…

2019 Hyundai Santa Fe

Hyundai is trying to keep up with all other car manufacturers and that is why they are going to redesign some of their SUVs and add a few brand new names too. The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe is going to replace the Santa Fe Sport that we have right now. It is going to be branded as 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe and the current Santa Fe will be renamed to 2019 Santa Fe XL.

The main change will be the length. The new 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe will be longer and wider than the current Santa Fe Sport and it will have 40% larger glass area which will solve the problem current model has with low visibility.

The base model will come with a 2.4 liter inline four engine with 185 hp, and a 2.0-liter inline-four engine with 235 hp.

Price: from $25,500

2019 Tesla Model 3

Tesla Model 3 is a huge rival to the BMW 3 series. However, it can’t be a true rival in all countries of the worl because the production process needs time and they (for example) don’t have time to adapt their new vehicles for the “right-hand-drive”. That is why they lose a part of their market.

The base model of the 2019 Tesla Model 3 will have a 220-mile range and will cost somewhere around $35,000. At least that is the price Tesla promised to sell this car. However, they will not start producing base versions until they finish with their first 5,000 units with longer range, higher top speed, and all-wheel drive. Those will cost between $49,000 and $72,000.

The newest version of 2019 Tesla Model 3 is “Performance”. That one will go from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. It will come with dual motor, all-wheel drive and every single premium option there is.

Price: $35,000 – $72,000

On Sale: 2019

2019 Tesla Model Y

Model 3 was meant to be the “cheap”-er version of the Model S. Following the same logic, we can assume that the 2019 Tesla Model Y is actually the cheaper version of the Model X. We don’t have any official photos however, there is a number of “potential” concept images on the net, showing the model, similar to the Model X, but without famous “falcon” doors. We expect the 2019 Tesla Model Y to be some sort of a crossover between the Model 3 and Model X.

2019 Tesla Pick-Up

Pick-up trucks are extremely popular in the US. Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk is aware of that fact. That is why, last year, we got the confirmation that Tesla will begin working on the all-electric truck right after they finish their work on the 2019 Tesla Model Y. Musk said that this truck will most probably be the same size as the Ford F-150 and maybe even larger.

2019 Hyundai Veloster

We saw the first Hyundai Veloster in 2011 with the first concept car in 2007. In 2017, the company decided to make a 1-year pause to give their engineers time to modify the engine for the next model. This paved the way for the brand new N-Series. This is why the 2019 Hyundai Veloster has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 147 hp. The Hyundai Veloster Turbo is also going to make a return, however, with the same 1.6-liter turbocharged engine with 201 hp.

Now, the N-Series is basically their performance division. The 2019 Hyundai Veloster N-Series will get a 275 hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a number of other performance upgrades.

2019 Kia Forte

Nobody expected that KIA will go for a total redesign of a vehicle that was, in fact, on the right path. Everyone loved the 2018 Kia Forte! However, this is nothing to be alarmed for. KIA only listened to their customers and made this vehicle longer and wider than the 2018 model. It will be 3″ longer and 0,5″ taller than the 2018 model. The engine is going to be the same one we had in the ongoing model, however, there is one crucial difference in the gearbox. The six-speed automatic transmission is going away, and it will be replaced with a CVT.

2019 Lexus UX

Lexus UX is the Japanese answer to the BMW X1. It is extremely well built, with very interesting lines and that huge hourglass grille… I don’t know about you, but I love how it looks. The interior is covered with all sorts of different surfaces which give this car a unique layered design you can’t see on every vehicle.

The 2019 Lexus UX will have a 2.0-liter inline-four engine with 168 hp. Lexus claims that this engine is the best, most efficient engine you can get on a production car. It will also get a hybrid version with 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine combined with two motors, one in the front and the other on the back.

2019 KIA K900

KIA Motors has a problem with their marketing department… this is fairly obvious. The last K900 Model was the 2017 KIA K900 and it sold 455 units… That is not good. And this is the main reason KIA had to make this one-year vacation.

The 2019 KIA K900 will have a Twin-Turbocharged 3.3 liter V6 that will provide the output of 365 hp. A more powerful model will have a V8 with 420hp.

The coolest thing about this car is the element of luxury. It is made to provide you with all the luxury you need, and not to turn anyone’s head with some noisy, roaring engine or shiny exterior.

2019 Lincoln Aviator

The last time we saw a brand new Lincoln Aviator was in 2005… Let that sink into your head. Well, this SUV was (unexpectedly) brought back during this March at the New York Auto Show. You can expect the rear-wheel drive, twin-turbocharged engine (with a plug-in hybrid model), and “Phone as Key” tech. You will be able to unlock your SUV, open doors, and a trunk, and even start/ drive your car.

2019 Lincoln MKC

The main focus of every trade/ car manufacturer is how many cars can he/she sell. That is why there are different classes of quality, different sizes, and different trims for every vehicle. This, 2019 Lincoln MKC is the smallest Luxury SUV this car manufacturer has to offer. It will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that will have an output of 240hp. The second engine option is a 285 hp turbocharged 2.3-liter engine.

2019 Lincoln Nautilus

The Lincoln MKX, midsize luxury SUV will get another name and a better (hope so) design. This new 2019 Lincoln Nautilus will borrow its new design from other models (a detail here and there) and it will be powered by 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 245 hp and V6 with 335 hp. Both engines will be tamed by an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

2019 Volkswagen Golf

In April 2018, Volkswagen announced its brand new line of “I.D.” Electric Cars and we are all waiting for that 2020 and their release. However, that little info has been making a “smoke curtain” for all other interesting models coming from the Volkswagen. One of such is none other than the new 2019 Volkswagen Golf Mk8. That model has been and will always be the backbone of the Volkswagen’s production. It will be built on the already famous MQB platform and it will come out as a mild hybrid.

2019 Ram 1500

As I can recall, every single full-size truck is going through some kind of a redesign. I mean, changes in vehicle development are logical and there is nothing bad about it, but it is strange that every vehicle manufacturer really tried to, not just bring something refreshing, but a redesign for their models. It is like they are afraid of something small called “The Future of Car Industry” :Cough: EVs :Cough:

It is powered by a 3.6 liter and 5.7 liter Hemi V8 engines. And it is also backed up by a 48-volt hybrid system! (“FUTURE”) The third engine option will be a turbodiesel 3.0 liter V6 and that one will come out in 2019.

The interior of the 2019 Ram 1500 has every single thing you would expect from a modern vehicle, including that famous huge touchscreen display you can see in “Tesla”.

2019 Volkswagen Arteon

The 2019 Volkswagen Arteon is basically the replacement for the Volkswagen CC. Since the CC was unable to keep up with its rivals, it was discontinued and there you have it! This fastback will have a turbocharged inline-four engine with 268hp. The only available transmission is going to be an eight-speed automatic, and that will probably make someone out there yell “NOOOOOO”…

The Volkswagen Jetta

The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is going for a complete redesign and those who were lucky enough to test it were pleased, but there was one problem – top speed. Well, the Volkswagen is going to fix that, and more about it later.

In 2019, the Volkswagen Jetta will be larger (in all directions) than all the previous models. It will be powered (the base model) by a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine with an output of 147 hp. However, a modified 2019 Volkswagen Jetta will try to break the land-speed record on the famous Bonneville Salt Flats in August. The record Volkswagen wants to beat 208.472.

Jetta will use a modified version of 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder EA888 engine that was used in the Golf and some other VW models. And what is the most important here is that this engine will find its way to the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta GLI performance.

2019 Volvo V60

This redesigned 2019 Volvo V60 is maybe the only wagon that I would like to drive. It doesn’t look like other wagons. It actually looks like some SUV.

The standard, base model will have a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, however, you can upgrade to a turbocharged, supercharged four-cylinder, and an amazing 362 hp engine. It all depends on the trim you choose.

The 2019 Volvo V60 interior naturally looks like other redesigned Volvos.

2019 Toyota Avalon

Last year, Toyota redesigned its Camry and they used the famous TNGA Platform which is also going to be used on the 2019 Toyota Avalon. The exterior of the 2019 Avalon is a bit too much for anyone that is actually looking for a sedan. It is a bit too aggressive. However, if you don’t mind that aggressive line and a huge grille, this car may actually be made just for you.

This large luxury sedan is powered by a modified version of the old 3.5 liter V6 which currently provides 268 hp, however, those adjustments are going to bump up the output to 301 hp. When you mate that engine to the 8-speed automatic transmission, you get pretty decent fuel consumption. For more power, you can get 2019 Toyota Avalon Touring or XSE models.

Besides that, you can get the 2019 Toyota Avalon HV Hybrid if you want better fuel consumption. But, more about that in our detailed review.

2019 Porsche Cayenne

What kind of SUV can you expect from a performance oriented car manufacturer? Well, this could as well be the best example of this odd combination. This performance SUV roars with strength, aggressiveness, and luxury. Somewhere in the middle of all that, someone decided to squeeze in the hybrid option too!

Main changes in this 2019 Porsche Cayenne are under the hood. It is actually lighter than the current model because it has a smaller, more powerful engine. Instead of an old 3.7 liter, the Porsche decided to go with a 3.0 liter V6 with 340hp.

The plug-in hybrid will use the V6 with an option to choose their V8 which is now being used in the well known 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo SE-Hybrid.

2019 Toyota RAV4

Toyota decided to completely redesign the 2019 RAV4. However, those changes are not “groundbreaking”. It is different enough when compared to the last year’s model to maybe draw new buyers without a danger of repelling the old ones.

The hybrid option is not planned, however, Toyota claims to have something special with their new 2.5-liter inline-four engine. They promised the best fuel economy industry has to offer in the SUV segment.

2019 Subaru Forester

The 2019 Subaru Forester will come standard with AWD (like always) and a modified old engine. More precisely, the 2019 Subaru Forester will use the last year’s 2.5L four-cylinder engine on some mild steroids. Instead of having the normal output of 170hp it will have 182hp. And unfortunately, it will only have one transmission – their original Lineartronic CVT. BUT you will be able to choose a manual mode and paddle shifters… if that can serve as some kind of consolation.

2019 Nissan Altima

Nissan Altima is one of the best-selling models for this company and the 2019 model will be an all-new version. That is why they really tried to make this model special. And one thing that makes it better and a little bit more distinctive than a lot of its competitors is the intelligent all-wheel drive. Unfortunately, that huge deciding factor will only be available on the base 2.5-liter direct injection four-cylinder engine that produces 188hp and 180 pound-feet of torque. And the BIG NEWS is the replacement of the V6 – it is GONE. Nissan is replacing that engine with the VC 2.0 liter turbo 4-cylinder. They haven’t announced the fuel-economy for the 2019 Nissan Altima.

2019 Volvo V40

The 2019 Volvo 40 will mark the end of the current generation of the new Volvo models. They will focus all their development on electrification. And by 2025, electric models should take 25% of their entire production.

Volvo is going to use the same Compact Modular Architecture they are now using on the new XC40 SUV to develop the next V40. That transfer to the “shared” architecture means lower production cost and hybrid/electric power.

EVs Were Extremely Popular in the 19th Century

“The future is now”, some would say. Even though EVs were (strangely) just a dream 8 years ago, with only a few companies working on the development of these “hummingbirds”, that hasn’t always been like that, and this trend is nothing new. Believe it or not, electric cars were the “THING” 150 years ago. Can you imagine that there was a fleet of EV cabs on the streets of New York in 1898? And by the end of the 19th century the U.S. had a total of 40% of automobiles powered by steam, 38% by electricity (IN THE 19th CENTURY!) and only 22% by gasoline. However, at the beginning of the 20th-century people suddenly started discovering huge reserves of petroleum. That led to the worldwide availability of cheap gasoline. During that time, EVs had low range and slow maximum speeds (range of 30-40 miles and the maximum speed of 15-20mph). That brought EVs to their doom.

The New Beginning

EVs are clean. They don’t pollute the air and they are extremely silent. However, those two reasons were not enough for the return of the EV. There is a lack of gasoline and the prices went up. People were looking for the alternative, and an EV is the perfect alternative. However, it is still an extremely expensive vehicle. It will take some time for the EV to become affordable for the general population. That is why almost all car manufacturers are going for the hybrid vehicles. And that is the main reason why almost all car manufacturers now have completely (or partially) redesigned vehicles. It is really the right time to push for some cleaner future.
